FUEL LEAK INTO STREAM ON TWIN RIDGES ROAD
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Webmaster
March 29, 2015

At approximately 08:45 Sunday morning a phone call was received at Millwood Fire HQ reporting a strong odor of fuel just northeast of Stillwater Lake on Twin Ridges Road. Units responded to find a visible sheen of fuel on the surface of a stream and a strong odor of fuel.
All adjacent residences were checked with negative results and all proper notifications were made. Millwood FF's placed five absorbent booms in the stream and a Millwood FF who helps care for the lake was able to close the spillway valve to reduce the flow of water from the lake into the stream. DEP Police responded to the scene and phone consults were conducted with Westchester County Haz-Mat, DEP Haz-mat, and DEC. The adjacent residences were checked by Millwood FD again later in the day and the next day - the exact source of fuel ( possibly from an undocumented/abandoned underground tank ) is still unfounded ATT.

Units: 2251, 2252, 2253, MA-10, E-247, E-248 ( L-52 returned to HQ to standby )

Mutual Aid: NCPD, DEP Police , Battalion 16, 2053
