Due to the inclement weather, Millwood FD held our weekly Tuesday night training indoors at Station 1 this week. This provided our officers with the opportunity to conduct a refresher on procedures for safely backing up apparatus on scenes and at the station, as well as proper apparatus placement for blocking the scene of motor vehicle accidents to create a safe working area. Additionally, they received training on elevator emergency operations.
During the drill, Millwood FD members were able to put some of these procedures into action when we were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on the Taconic State Parkway. Car 2252 (AC McCarthy) was first on scene and confirmed the motor vehicle accident with a vehicle off the roadway. Upon the arrival of Engine 247 and Rescue 36, members assisted with traffic control and vehicle removal, while Ossining VAC provided patient care. Millwood units remained on scene for just under an hour before returning to service.
