At around 9:15 yesterday night, we were dispatched with the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department to a reported large brush fire in the area of the Chappaqua Road exit on the Taconic State Parkway. Upon investigation, Briarcliff Manor Car 2051 determined that the fire was actually on Claybird Lane at the Mt. Pleasant Town Dump. Millwood units were then directed to Claybird Lane and given assignments. Tanker 15 was requested directly to the scene to provide initial water to the portable ponds for drafting and then to begin shuttle operations. Engine 247 was requested to the nearest hydrant to establish a fill site to fill the tankers. Mini-Attack 10 was requested directly to the scene. Upon determining the size of the fire, tankers from the Pleasantville Fire Department Headquarters, Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, and the Pocantico Hills Fire Department were all requested to assist in tanker operations. Later on, tankers from the Yorktown Heights Volunteer FD and Bedford Hills Fire Department were also requested to the scene. During the duration of this incident, the Ossining Fire Department provided coverage for Briarcliff Manor in case they had another call in district. It is estimated that over 196,000 gallons of water was used to put out this fire! After a long night of operations, all units were in service over 5 hours later.
