Weekly Drill Covers Crucial Skills |
April 22, 2021 | |
For our weekly Tuesday drill, members had the opportunity to rotate between 4 important stations. The first station, run by Chief Raguso, went over the RIT pack found on Ladder 52. RIT stands for Rapid Intervention Team, a team that will enter a building if something goes wrong inside to ensure the safety of members inside. Chief Raguso went over the operations of the RIT pack and discussed how most things go wrong within the first 10-15 minutes of fire. The second station, run by Captain Santone and Lieutenant Lyon, covered VEIS or Vent Enter Isolate Search. This operation is crucial for helping victims inside the fire building. The third station, run by Chief McCarthy, covered the placement, advancement and operation of hoselines. Members learned that effectively and efficiently deploying and operating hoselines can help us get better control of a fire earlier in the operation. Finally, the fourth station, run by Chief Rodrigues, covered basic pump operations. Our junior pump operators had the opportunity to get hands on experience with understanding pressures and flowing water. |
