Millwood FD Responds to Water Rescue Calls

September 2, 2021

The long-lasting torrential downpours kept Millwood FD and all of Westchester County emergency services busy last night.

Just before 10pm, Millwood FD, along with all departments in the county, was requested to standby in quarters due to the extreme call volume. Millwood members immediately began responding to calls across the district for water conditions in homes, residential alarms, and multiple vehicles stuck in rising waters.

At 2:10 this morning, Millwood FD Marine 45 was requested to report to the Westchester County Fire Training Center for staging prior to being sent to Southern Westchester to assist with evacuations and rescues. Millwood FD was requested to respond with multiple other marine units to stage in Mamaroneck, where over 400 homes needed to be checked due to 10-15 feet of water. The Millwood marine unit with a compliment of members and numerous other local and state agencies are still staged in Mamaroneck at this time, while another group of members remain in Millwood handling calls in district

As a reminder, please stay off the roads if you don't need to drive, and if you do, do not drive through any flooded roadways, as the water may be deeper than it seems.
