Millwood FD Trains With Mutual Aid Partners at an Acquired Structure

December 1, 2021

Yesterday evening, Millwood FD had the special opportunity to train with our neighboring departments at an acquired structure in the area of Seven Bridges Road. Unlike our typical Tuesday night drills at our stonehouse at Station 2, training in this structure allowed members to practice skills that aren't easy to train on without a real-life scenario. While this unique opportunity was spearheaded by the Millwood Chiefs, we were also able to bring in experienced advisors to oversee the evolutions to ensure all skills were executed properly and efficiently. The focus on this drill was ladder company operations, which had groups reviewing techniques for ladder truck and ground ladder placement, roof ventilating, using saws and other hand tools, and more. Other groups trained in the interior of the structure, reviewing skills in wall breaching, air pack maneuvers, and forcible entry. While all this training was happening in and around the structure, members of the Ossining FD FASTeam drilled on removing downed firefighters from the basement.

This exercise was no easy task to plan and execute. We would like to thank the New Castle Building Department, New Castle PD and our Millwood FD Chiefs for helping make this possible. We would also like to thank the Chappaqua FD, Mt. Kisco FD Mutual Engine & Hose Co. #1, Briarcliff Manor FD, Ossining FD, Millwood FD members for executing a very successful and valuable drill.

Millwood FD and our neighboring departments will be back at the structure on Thursday night to continue training on a different set of skills.
