Brush Fire on Tough Terrain on the West Side of Town |
August 22, 2022 | |
Just after 3pm on Friday afternoon, Millwood FD was requested to Croton Dam Road (Route 134) and Allapartus Road for a reported outside smoke condition. First arriving units found a growing brush fire on steep, rocky terrain on Allapartus Road. Car 2253 (Chief McCarthy) had command and requested an engine from Croton FD, and an engine and UTV from Yorktown FD. Croton FD's Tanker 10 was also requested to standby at Station 2, but was sent to the scene shortly after. After helping on our scene for a while, the Yorktown FD units were released to handle a growing brush fire in their district, not too far from this brush fire. Due to the lengthy time we anticipated being on scene, Chappaqua FD was placed on standby in their own headquarters to cover our calls, but they were requested to assist at the Yorktown brush fire. At this time, an engine from Mt. Kisco FD was requested to standby at Station 2, but was quickly brought into the scene to assist and Briarcliff Manor FD's UTV was requested to help us get equipment and personnel in and out of the scene. Members operated on scene for 4.5 hours, helping extinguish the fire and working to mitigate the further growth of the fire on the rough terrain, before it became too dark to operate safely. Pleasantville FD stood by at Station 1 during the incident to cover our district and Pleasantville VAC provided rehab services to members on scene, Millwood FD, Croton FD, Mt. Kisco FD, and Briarcliff Manor FD members returned to the scene in the morning to continue to remove any additional fuel sources and ensure that all fire had been extinguished. Units were back in service Saturday morning after over 3 hours. |
