A Very Busy Sunday for Your Millwood Volunteers

Beginning at 12:30 Sunday morning, Millwood FD was dispatched to a residential alarm on Cabin Ridge Road. Car 2251 (Chief Rodrigues), 2253 (Chief Santone), Engine 248, and Ladder 52 responded. Members arrived and determined that there was an unknown reason for activation and returned to service after investigating.

At 8:18am, Millwood FD was dispatched to another residential alarm on Route 100. Car 2251, 2252, 2253, and Ladder 52 responded. The Chiefs arrived first on scene and determined the alarm was due to smoke from cooking and returned Ladder 52 to service prior to its arrival.

At 3:45pm, Millwood FD was dispatched to a lift assist requested by Ossining VAC on Hoags Cross Road. Car 2251, 2252, 2253, Engine 248, and Utility 145 responded and members assisted with the patient removal, returning to service in a short time.

While clearing the lift assist, Millwood FD was then dispatched to a reported brush fire near a residential property close to propane tanks on Barnes Road with the Ossining FD FASTeam and an engine from Briarcliff Manor FD. Car 2252 arrived first on scene and reported a 50x50 brush fire. The fire quickly grew to 200' x 200' Upon the arrival of apparatus, Engine 248 stretched 2 lines, Engine 247 stretched its booster reel and 200' of 2" line and Mini-Attack 10 laid in 5" from a hydrant on the street and hooked up to Engine 248 to provide a positive water source. The Ossining FD FASTeam was quickly returned to service, and the Briarcliff Manor Engine remained available on scene in case of any additional calls in our district.

Then at 8pm, Millwood FD was dispatched again with the Ossining FD FASTeam and a tanker from Croton-on-Hudson FD to a structure on the west side of town for a reported structure fire with flames from the roof. Car 2251, 2252, 2253, Engine 248, Ladder 52, Tanker 15, and Mini-Attack 10 responded and were met with fire on the second floor of a large vacant structure. Millwood FD and Croton FD units remained on scene until 10:30pm.

While returning from the structure fire on the west side of our district, Rescue 36 was requested to respond mutual aid to a structure fire in Sleepy Hollow FD's district. Car 2251, 2252, and Rescue 36 were on the road moments after dispatch. Due to a quick attack, Sleepy Hollow FD firefighters knocked down the fire prior to the arrival of Rescue 36 and Millwood units were quickly released and placed back in service
