Ossining Structure Fires & Montrose Brush Fire
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

April 14, 2023

Just before 1:15pm yesterday afternoon, Millwood FD Engine 247 was requested to standby Ossining FD headquarters with Sleepy Hollow FD while Ossining FD and Croton-on-Hudson FD members operated at a structure fire. While en route, Car 2251 (Chief Rodrigues), Engine 247 and Sleepy Hollow FD Tower Ladder 38 were dispatched to a gas alarm in Ossining FD's district. Millwood and Sleepy Hollow members arrived on scene and used our gas meters to check the basement of the structure for high levels of gas. The gas company determined the meter had been leaking, shut it down, and all Millwood and Sleepy Hollow units returned to Ossining FD headquarters to continue the standby.

At 2pm, Ossining FD received a report of an additional structure fire while their members were still operating at the original one. Millwood and Sleepy Hollow members responded and saw smoke from the distance, resulting in a working fire assignment being dispatched. Millwood and Sleepy Hollow units were met by available units from Ossining FD and Briarcliff Manor FD. Members of all departments worked together to extinguish the fire on the 3rd floor, which they were able to contain to the rear balcony of the structure. All units were back in service within an hour.

At 3:45pm, Millwood FD Engine 247 was again requested to standby, this time for Montrose FD with Lake Mohegan FD Ladder 35 while Montrose FD operated at a large scale brush fire in the Blue Mountain Reservation with tankers and UTVs from Buchanan FD, Verplanck FD, Peekskill FD, Croton-on-Hudson FD, Continental Village FD, Thornwood FD, Briarcliff Manor FD, and Yorktown Heights FD, as well as bambi bucket support from Westchester County PD Air 2 and communication support from Westchester County DES Field Comm 1. After standing by for 45 minutes, command requested Engine 247 to the scene. Car 2252 (Chief McCarthy) and Engine 247 arrived on scene and assisted crews with extinguishing hot spots. After just over 3 hours on scene, Millwood FD units were placed back in service.
