Just after 6pm, Millwood FD Ladder 52 was dispatched on automatic mutual aid to a reported stove fire in Chappaqua FD's district. Car 2253 (Chief Santone) was the first arriving member on scene and confirmed a working gas-fed stove fire. Chief Santone and an officer from the New Castle PD attempted to extinguish the fire with dry chemical extinguishers, but were unsuccessful. Upon the arrival of Car 2063 (Chappaqua FD Chief), Chief Santone was designated Operations Command while the Chappaqua FD Chief assumed Incident Command. Ladder 52 took the driveway as the first arriving fire apparatus and stretched a handline into the kitchen. Ladder 52 members were able to extinguish the fire and worked with Chappaqua FD members to check for extension by opening the walls and using our thermal imaging camera, conduct ventilation with fans, and place ground ladders on the exterior of the structure in case the fire had extended to the second floor. Millwood units were on scene for an hour and a half before returning to service.
