A Busy Firematic and Event Weekend
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

September 10, 2023

Beginning on Thursday, Millwood FD members, Car 2253 - ( Chief Santone) and Engine 247 had the honor of joining departments throughout Westchester County in welcoming the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit to Mt. Kisco. The Mobile Exhibit was on display this weekend to education community members of all ages about the heroes who sacrificed it all on September 11th.

Yesterday was a busy day for the Millwood FD volunteers. Early in the morning at 12:30am, Millwood FD Ladder 52 was requested to respond to Chappaqua FD's district for a fully-involved structure fire. Car 2252 (Chief McCarthy) and Ladder 52 members set-up the aerial ladder in the rear of the structure to provide suppression support. Millwood FD members worked with members from Chappaqua FD, Mt. Kisco FD, Pleasantville FD, Thornwood FD, and Bedford Hills FD members to extinguish the fire from handlines on the ground, our aerial ladder, and in the bucket of Chappaqua FD's tower ladder, and conduct overhaul operations to find hidden pockets of fire. Millwood units returned to service within 3 hours.

Later in the morning, Millwood FD members Choire Sicha and Bob Seltzer took Mini-Attack 10 to the Chappaqua Train Station to host our booth at the Rotary Club of Chappaqua's annual Community Day. We had a great time speaking with community members, talking about the work we do, and showing everyone around Mini-Attack 10!

Yesterday afternoon, Captain Lyon and members Choire Sicha and Bob Seltzer took Engine 247 to an annual neighborhood event on Joan Drive. This was another great opportunity for our members to interact with the community, display our Apparatus and equipment, and show our support for local events, while discussing fire safety issues and encouraging members of the community to consider volunteering themselves !

While some members attended Community Day and the event on Joan Drive, Car 2252 ( Chief McCarty ) and a crew on Engine 248 headed across the river to stand by for the Central Nyack FD as they attended the annual Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters' Association Parade in West Haverstraw. Millwood FD was one of many Westchester County fire departments to cover a Rockland County's district. While standing by for Central Nyack FD, Car 2252 and Engine 248 responded to a commercial alarm at the Palisades Mall. Millwood units covered Central Nyack's district from 11am-6pm.

While all of these events occurred on Saturday, Millwood FD also answered 2 additional residential alarms in district.

Units: Car 2252, Car 2253, Engine 247, Engine 248, Ladder 52, Mini-Attack 10

Mutual Aid: Chappaqua FD, Mt. Kisco FD, Pleasantville FD, Thornwood FD, Bedford Hills FD, Central Nyack FD
