Chimney Fire in Croton-on-Hudson

March 23, 2024

Just before 7pm last night, Millwood FD Tanker 15 was requested with Yorktown Heights FD Tanker 14 and the Ossining FD FASTeam on an automatic mutual aid assignment for a reported chimney fire in Croton-on-Hudson FD's district due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area. Soon after dispatch, Croton FD command confirmed an active chimney fire and requested Millwood FD Ladder 52 to also respond due to its small size and maneuverability. Tanker 15 and Ladder 52 members assisted interior crews and set-up our misting chimney nozzle to clear blockages and flow a small amount of water to extinguish the fire and cool the chimney. This allowed members to minimize damage to the over 100 year old home. Millwood units remained on scene for over 3 hours before returning to service.
During this time, Car 2253 (Asst.Chief Santone) and Members at both Stations were available for any calls in District.
