Last week, Millwood FD Chief Rodrigues, Company President Stein, FF/EMT Brandoff, FF Traver, and FF Yun took our new Mini-Attack 35 to Camp Smith to participate in a UTV operations course taught by Polaris Government & Defense with numerous other fire departments from throughout Westchester County. This course began with basic operator skills and potential fireground scenarios we may experience.
Later in the day, members took advantage of the trails around Camp Smith to learn how to properly traverse sloped and rocky terrain while maintaining a safe speed and simulating having a patient on the back being transported. Members also learned how to properly travel through water and get the UTV unstuck when needed. All these evolutions are vital for members to learn, as we have numerous wooded trails throughout our district and the surrounding fire districts.
A big thank you to Polaris and our neighboring departments for the opportunity to take part in this great course! |
